Melissa Cummings
Melissa Cummings is the Chief Operating Officer at Progyny, playing a critical role in scaling Progyny’s operations and building on capabilities and advancing the differentiated service and support Progyny offers today. Known as a dynamic change leader with a deep customer and provider focus, Melissa brings a broad skill set spanning P&L leadership, corporate strategy, product development, sales, technology, and operations. Her ability to lead with both vision and execution has consistently delivered measurable results and improved outcomes for organizations, clients, and the communities they serve.
Prior to joining Progyny, Melissa served as EVP and Chief Customer Officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of RI (BCBSRI) where she led record growth, retention and brand recognition for this $2 billion plan across both commercial and government segments. Melissa led the evolution of the firm’s retail strategy, along with a number of market-leading customer service capabilities – including the first of its kind navigation and advocacy solution – and directed sales, product, marketing, operations and enterprise strategic planning. Melissa has also held senior leadership positions at Aetna (now CVS Health) and CIGNA in business operations, product development and management, underwriting and sales.
Melissa holds a B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross and an M.B.A. in Health Care Management from the University of Connecticut. She is deeply involved with the American Heart Association, serving as Past Board Chair for the Southern New England Board of Directors, and a former Go Red chairperson. She currently serves on the Board for RI PBS/NPR and chairs the organization’s Development Committee.
